About Me

I grew up in the South where bacon grease, bleached white flour, butter, or sugar are the base for most recipes. Twenty years ago, I was introduced to healthier ingredients and cooking methods. This presented a problem because in my experience what healthy foods offered in nutrition, they often lacked in taste or appeal. Because I am a problem solver by nature, this dilemma just fueled my curiosity. I am constantly expanding my understanding of nutrition and finding new ways to make healthy recipes affordable and delicious.

I have utilized my problem solving skills to help other people find solutions and success with their diet and health goals. I am not a doctor or expert, just a person who changed her eating/cooking habits and now enjoys it all – nutrition, taste, and health benefits. Those habits keep my blood pressure low, make me feel great, and have kept me wearing a size 8 for the last 18 years. My husband of 22 years, and five children gladly sample and critique my cooking. My husband has been a passionate blogger for years and inspired me to take my niche to the web. Here is my unsolicited, unashamed plug for him – The Blue Collar Muse.

My friends often ask me to write a cookbook, but I want to give more than just delicious recipes. I am endeavoring to also share the system that leads to the recipes. Whether you already cook and are looking for information, tips and inspiration to make healthy foods delicious; have a general desire to eat healthier; or have specific weight or health goals, I have something for you. Not magic answers, just uncomplicated steps toward achieving your goals.

Whether you choose our ‘by design’ consultation with custom recipes or just visit the blog to take advantage of general nutritional information and cooking tips, you will find genuine, practical help. I welcome your questions or comments using the ‘email Kathy’ link in the sidebar or send a note to healthycookingbydesign[at]gmail[dot]com.
